Samuel Storrow U.S. Civil War Journals

Abstract: Two journals kept by Samuel Storrow during the U.S. Civil War, the first while Storrow served as a corporal in the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, 44th Regiment (September 20, 1862-June 18, 1863), and the second while serving in the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, 2nd Regiment (September 1864- March 1865), during which time he was promoted to first lieutenant; in his entries Storrow describes movements of equipment and troops, camp life, weather, and military actions.

Abstract: The collection, consisting of photocopies of letters, genealogies, military documents, newspaper clippings, and modern reproductions of family photographs, pertains to the Texas families of Alexander May Shannon and William B. Scott, Shannon's father in-law. Highlights of the collection are a number of letters written by Shannon and Scott regarding U.S. Civil War battles (including the battle at Galveston) and daily life and living conditions in the army.

Java by the USS Constitution in 1813.

Texas Governors Letters collection

Subjects include thanks for gifts sent and requests for reading materials, and do not relate specifically to Texas politics.

Texas Mexico Border Campaign at Camp Stewart photographs

Overview The collection consists of photographs of Camp Stewart at El Paso, Texas, and the infantry- and cavalry-men stationed there in 1916 for the Pershing Expedition in pursuit of Pancho Villa. There are two large framed panoramic views of the camp layout and a scrapbook of 148 mostly sepia snapshots.

U.S. Civil War Photographs Collection

Overview These photographs taken during the U.S. Civil War reflect a wide range of battles and sites, although not all are represented. The collection includes 84 photographs mounted on 8″ × 91/2″ boards, many labelled with caption information. The photographs were taken by a variety of photographers, including Mathew B. Brady and Alexander Gardner, and many have been published in "The Photographic History of the Civil War" or which are also available through the National Archives.
