Samuel Storrow U.S. Civil War Journals

Abstract: Two journals kept by Samuel Storrow during the U.S. Civil War, the first while Storrow served as a corporal in the Massachusetts Volunteer Militia, 44th Regiment (September 20, 1862-June 18, 1863), and the second while serving in the Massachusetts Volunteer Infantry, 2nd Regiment (September 1864- March 1865), during which time he was promoted to first lieutenant; in his entries Storrow describes movements of equipment and troops, camp life, weather, and military actions.

Shannon-Scott family of Texas papers

Abstract: The collection, consisting of photocopies of letters, genealogies, military documents, newspaper clippings, and modern reproductions of family photographs, pertains to the Texas families of Alexander May Shannon and William B. Scott, Shannon's father in-law. Highlights of the collection are a number of letters written by Shannon and Scott regarding U.S. Civil War battles (including the battle at Galveston) and daily life and living conditions in the army.

Sir John William Phillips Marshall papers

Abstract: Bound volume of transcribed correspondence to and from British Rear Admiral Sir John William Phillips Marshall, CB (1785-1850), during the period of the Napoleonic Wars (1803-1815) and concurrent War of 1812, including correspondence concerning a court martial related to the capture and destruction of the ship H.M.S. Java by the USS Constitution in 1813.

Texas Governors Letters collection

Abstract: This collection contains three letters: two from Governor James Allred of Texas to Emil Hurja of the Democratic National Committee in Washington D.C. (1935-36), and one from Gov. Lawrence Sullivan Ross of Texas to General M. Cist of Cincinnati, Ohio (1889). Subjects include thanks for gifts sent and requests for reading materials, and do not relate specifically to Texas politics.

Texas Mexico Border Campaign at Camp Stewart photographs

Overview The collection consists of photographs of Camp Stewart at El Paso, Texas, and the infantry- and cavalry-men stationed there in 1916 for the Pershing Expedition in pursuit of Pancho Villa. There are two large framed panoramic views of the camp layout and a scrapbook of 148 mostly sepia snapshots.

Thaddeus K. Oglesby, The Case of the South Against Britannica

Abstract: The collection consists of a revised manuscript of The Case of the South Against the Encyclopaedia Britannica and other Maligners and contains approximately 140 loose sheets of various sizes, consisting of printed material pasted on with handwritten notations and revisions.

U.S. Civil War National Cemetery letters

Abstract: This collection consists of twenty-one letters from various U.S. Civil War military departments to other U.S. military departments, regarding various aspects relating to national cemeteries. These aspects include: the location, construction and inspection of national cemeteries, requests for materials and proposed costs, and reports of appointments and comments of national cemetery superintendents.

U.S. Civil War Photographs Collection

Overview These photographs taken during the U.S. Civil War reflect a wide range of battles and sites, although not all are represented. The collection includes 84 photographs mounted on 8″ × 91/2″ boards, many labelled with caption information. The photographs were taken by a variety of photographers, including Mathew B. Brady and Alexander Gardner, and many have been published in "The Photographic History of the Civil War" or which are also available through the National Archives.
